Explore Mt. Everest by Following Adventurer Heinrich Harrer’s Footsteps

Years ago, I had the privilege of meeting my compatriot Heinrich Harrer, the famous adventurer and Tibet expert. He tirelessly shared stories of the wonderful experiences he had in Tibet and urged me to undertake a journey to Lhasa. His tales of the culture and spirituality in Tibet, along with the majestic mountain scenery beneath Mount Everest, left a lasting impression on me.

Witness Beijing’s Warm People, Timeless History, and Stunning Progress

In mid-April of this year, we flew from Munich to Beijing. China's capital surprised us with its friendly people, rich history, and impressive economic development. We could enter China without visas for 30 days, making our Beijing to Tibet tour easier and even more enjoyable.

Our exploration began in Beijing, where we spent three days immersing ourselves in the city. The Forbidden City impressed us with its majestic architecture and historical significance. Climbing the Great Wall was another highlight, as we were amazed by its size and beauty.

After three days in Beijing, we made our way to Xian, traveling on a high-speed train. This comfortable journey led us to the famous Terracotta Army, which captivated us with its intricate details and the story behind its creation.

Ride the Sky Train to Tibet: Epic Journey Across the Tibetan Plateau

The pinnacle of our trip was the journey to Tibet. Traveling by soft sleeper Tibet train through the high plateaus of Tibet, we reached an altitude of 5,200 meters, which was an exhilarating and majestic experience. Upon arriving in Lhasa, we were overwhelmed by our first impressions and the sight of the Potala Palace.

In Lhasa, we visited the Jokhang Temple, where pilgrims practiced their spiritual rituals. The atmosphere was mystical and full of devotion, leaving a deep impression on us. Tibetan Buddhism taught us the importance of compassion and understanding for others.

During our time in the Tibet group tour, we met Jasmin and Joseph, a Chinese couple who studied and live in Germany. My brother-in-law, Hubert, from Carinthia, joined us, completing our little travel trio. Together, we explored local markets, tasted Tibetan dishes, and enjoyed the warm hospitality of the Tibetan people.

Enjoyed an Adventure of a Lifetime at the Tibet Everest Base Camp

One of the most incredible parts of the journey was visiting the Tibet Everest Base Camp at the foot of Mount Everest. There, we were rewarded with breathtaking Himalayan views and experienced both the sunset and sunrise over the mountains. The spiritual atmosphere and connection to nature inspired deep reflections about life.

Farewell to Lhasa: Carrying Home Wisdom and Compassion

As we prepared to say farewell to Lhasa, we carried with us countless memories and experiences. A special thanks went to our tour guide Ami Diao, and our guide Tashi from Tibet Vista, who made this unforgettable journey a unique experience.

This 8-day Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour was more than just an adventure; it was a connection to the stories of a great man and a deeper bond between my son and me. Through the teachings of Buddhism, we took wisdom and compassion into our hearts, cherishing these experiences forever.
