My Unforgettable Everest Base Camp Travel Experience with Tibet Vista: Great Team & Great Journey!

Written by Ana 0 COMMENTS

My Everest travel experience with Tibet Vista started months before I was sure that I would be able to travel. It turned out to be one of the most memorable journeys of my life.

The Start of My Tibet Journey: Amazing Guidance from Emma, My Dedicated Consultant

From the beginning, Emma (the amazing person who was always in contact with me) was the most attentive and helpful person, even with our 12-hour time difference to talk. She was super careful with all my questions, from weather to itinerary.

After I was sure that I would be able to travel and bought the trip to Tibet, it was just good surprises. I was able to get the night train to Lhasa, as I was hoping to get, and Emma was always gracious with my questioning about the tickets and timetable.

The Journey Full of Surprises from the Moment I Arrived in Lhasa

After travelling for more than 24 hours, arriving in Lhasa was good, but better was the reception I had. At the train station entrance, a staff member was waiting for me with my name on a sign.

Arriving at the hotel in Lhasa was another surprise. Super beautiful and comfortable, especially good food. It was the same hotel we stayed in the last night, for me, a good thing, because we were already familiar with the place.

Enjoyed My Days in Lhasa with a Great Team

On the first day of our small group tour in Tibet, we had a welcome dinner, good to start to know the people I was sharing the tour with, and again, with really good food.

The next day, we met all the people we were spending the next week with. What a gift. The group became a family, and I was lucky to be able to meet some after the tour was over; that tour brought me some real friends that I am taking for life.

And I have to praise our guide and driver. Both of them took no time to solve even the smallest problems we had, always offering water and tea for us to be hydrated and feel better with the heights, and more than that, the knowledge he showed, the depth of the facts, and careful explaining was, for me, the best part of the tour.

And for me, another important thing was that they were able to keep the group on time for all the activities. I know when you travel in a group, some delay is bound to happen, but they were champs at not letting that affect the tour.

We spent two days exploring Lhasa and its surroundings in detail, and the richness of information. It was good for our bodies to get used to the more than 3,000 meters the city offers.

Visited a Tibetan Family and Yamdrok Lake on the Way from Lhasa to Shigatse

The next days were a long day towards Shigatse, but what a road, what a view, and what an experience. I’ve always been in love with lake landscapes and have been to some of the most famous and beautiful lakes around the world, but nothing prepared me for the views of Yamdrok Lake we were gifted. Really unforgettable.

But for me, being able to have an authentic meal at a Tibetan house was unexpected and full of learning. Learning how Tibetans live, how they share the space between the family members, the school system for the kids, and the marriage traditions.

My Unforgettable Journey to Everest Base Camp: Lucky and Impressive

The next day, we were anxious as we drove towards Everest Base Camp in Tibet, eager to catch our first sight of it. We had a few opportunities to see it, all of which were frustrating, but that doesn’t mean it wasn't worth it.

Actually, for me, my favorite views of the Everest Base Camp tour were the eight peaks of the Himalaya from the Gawula Pass. It was the first time I had an idea of how big and impressive the mountains were. It was emotional for me, life-changing, being on that road, just hearing the wind and contemplating the scenery.

We went up to the Everest Base Camp with the hope of seeing it, but again, frustrated (wait for it), it was cloudy. We spent hours at the closest point to the mountain we could, but I didn’t have the appropriate clothes for the temperature, so around nine pm I started my walk back to the base.

The best was yet to come, and I felt so blessed. On my way back to the camp, the clouds started to fade, and we were gifted with the full grandiosity of Mt. Everest, with the cherry on top, the peak was lit by the last stray of sun. What a lifetime experience.

Our Group at everest base campThough we were waiting for the summit of Everest to appear, we enjoyed a great time with our group.

The next day we were supposed to wake up early to see the sunrise, but surprise, there was a snowstorm out there to give us an unbelievable and dramatic scenery of the base camp, a beauty.

I have to clap the cooks of the Base Camp, the dinner was an amazing Hot Pot, with an uncountable amount of ingredients you could choose, and the breakfast, I cannot even explain, shamelessly, I ate at least three times.

Almost the End of the Journey, Saying Goobye Felt Too Soon

The next day, we headed back to Shigatse, but we stopped in a small village that had not more than two streets. I can say that I was able to have authentic and local Tibetan food from the restaurant we stopped at. It always impressed me how, even not able to speak English, the locals always received us with a smile on their faces and friendliness.

It was a bittersweet moment for me, because I knew our journey was almost over and I was not ready to let it behind.

We got to Lhasa and again, having all the support of our guide and driver, we were able to have one of the best experiences I had while traveling.
