It is great news that Everest Base Camp tent hotels have been fully upgraded and officially reopened for tourists since June 2025. With improved facilities and better living conditions, your stay at Everest Base Camp in Tibet will be more enjoyable than ever before.

Moreover, the renovated Rongbuk Hotel and modern hotels in nearby Tashi Dzom Village and Tingri provide wide lodging choices to satisfy the different needs of tourists.

Here, we will share the latest information about the best hotels at Everest Base Camp and help you find the best lodge for your next trip to Everest Base Camp based on your preference.

#1: Everest Base Camp Tent Hotels: Fully Renovated and Reopened on June 1, 2025

After more than half a year of upgrading and renovation, the Everest Tent Hotels reopened to tourists in early June this year.

The base camp area now features 60 traditional Tibetan tents in the base camp area, neatly arranged across the site. Although the exterior still retains the authentic Tibetan style, the internal facilities have been significantly upgraded.

Each tent hotel at the Everest Base Camp offers a variety of room types such as standard rooms, single rooms, and triple rooms to meet different needs of tourists.

In addition, all tent hotels have been connected to tap water, stable electricity supply, and equipped with oxygen inhalation equipment. The entire tent hotel area is also equipped with emergency vehicles, small shops, a restaurant, and a teahouse to provide you with a more comfortable and secure stay experience at Everest Base Camp.

#2: Rongbuk Monastery Hotel: Closest Stay with Everest Views from Your Room

Located along the way from the tent hotel area to the Everest summit viewpoints, Rongbuk Hotel offers the closest stay to Everest, with stunning views of the world’s highest peak from its rooms. Imagine that you have just gotten up, while brushing your teeth, glance up at the best view of Mount Everest, what a soul-stirring experience it is.

Since renovated in 2023, the Rongbuk Hotel provides double rooms and triple rooms. All are equipped with heating and oxygen supply. There is also a restaurant in the hotel, serving simple hot pot and dishes like noodles, fried rice, and drinks.

Please note that even though there are private bathrooms in double rooms, showering is still not available at such a high altitude. And in winter seasons, when the temperatures are quite cold at night, only the public restroom is available during the harsh winter season.

It is open all year round, and the price can be relatively high due to its unique location. But the stunning views and great location also attract many tourists to stay. If you want to stay in the Rongbuk Hotel, please book your tour as early as possible.

#3: Hotels at Tashi Dzom Village near EBC: Ideal for Altitude Acclimatization

At the lower altitude (3,950 meters) in the nearby places of Everest Base Camp, Tashi Dzom Village is an alternative place to stay in the Everest Region. If you decide to stay overnight here, in general, the altitude sickness may not hit you.

Recently, the hotels in Tashi Dzom Village have been greatly updated. Most standard hotels are now equipped with an oxygen supply and offer clean and comfortable rooms. One of the best hotels in Tashi Dzom Village is the Pingcuo Kangsang Everest Base Camp Rich Oxygen Hotel. It offers a modern hotel experience with all the essential room facilities.

If you don’t want to stay at the base camp at over 5,000 meters above sea level, you can choose to stay in Tashi Dzom Village with better room conditions after visiting Everest Base Camp.

#4: Hotels in Tingri at the Foot of Everest: Best Stays for EBC Trek Preparation

Tingri is at an altitude of about 4,300 meters, around 107 km north-west of Mount Everest, often used as a base by mountain climbers or trekkers preparing to Everest Base Camp treks. As a town, the facilities of the hotels in Tingri are the best among the Mount Everest area in Tibet.

Some of the popular hotels in Tingri include Tingri Everest International Hotel (newly opened in 2024) and Shanzhiji Hotel (Newly renovated in 2024). Many local hotels have recently been renovated, offering modern standard rooms, private bathrooms, and all the essential amenities for a comfortable stay.

Is It safe to stay at Everest Base Camp?

Staying overnight at Everest Base Camp in Tibet is generally considered safe for most travelers. However, due to the high altitude, harsh environment, and limited facilities, it’s important to understand the risks and how to prepare for altitude sickness and cold temperatures at the base camp.

At around 5,000 meters above sea level, the oxygen level at the Everest Base Camp is only about half that of sea level. It is common to get a headache, dizziness, nausea, or trouble sleeping, which are typical symptoms of altitude sickness.

But don’t worry too much. Nowadays, the Rongbuk Hotel, tent hotels at Everest Base Camp, and local hotels in nearby villages all have oxygen supply equipment available.

Following our well-arranged Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour itinerary, you’ll first acclimate to the plateau altitude in Lhasa, which is around 3,650 meters above sea level. Then, you’ll head to Shigatse and finally arrive at the Everest Base Camp. The entire itinerary avoids rushing the journey, allowing you to gradually acclimate to the altitude rise and minimize the discomfort that may occur upon arrival at Everest Base Camp.

Besides the high altitude, you also need to watch out for the cold temperatures. Even in summer, the temperature of Everest Base Camp at night can drop below freezing.

At present, the newly renovated Rongbuk Hotel and Everest Base Camp Tent Hotels are equipped with heating, offering a more comfortable stay for travelers.

So, with good preparation, gradual acclimatization, and a well-planned tour, it is safe to stay at Everest Base Camp. You’ll get to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience to view the glorious sunset and sunrise over Mount Everest.

What to Pack for an Overnight Staying at Everest Base Camp?

A sleeping bag is not necessary for sightseeing tours to Everest Base Camp in Tibet. The upgraded hotels at Everest Base Camp and the villages at the mountain foot all provide clean and comfortable bedding.

However, since there is no luxury lodging and no showers available at the base camp, it is recommended to bring your own toiletries and wet wipes for simple cleaning at night.

In addition, due to the unpredictable weather of Everest Base Camp in Tibet, it's essential to bring warm, windproof clothing such as down jackets, along with sun protection items like hats and sunglasses. Because the wind is strong and UV radiation is intense at the Everest Base Camp in Tibet.

To protect your skin from the dryness of the plateau climate, it’s a good idea to bring skincare essentials like lip balm and moisturizing cream to stay comfortable.

More Insider Tips for A Safe and Enjoyable Stay at Everest Base Camp

Everest Base Camp in Tibet is accessible all year round, but the best time to visit Everest Base Camp is April, May, June, September, October, and November. During these months, the temperatures are relatively mild with less rainfall. So, you can get the best chances to enjoy the spectacular summit of Mt. Everest and the majestic Himalayas.

Traveling to Everest Base Camp in winter is also possible. In the past, only the Rongbuk Hotel was open during winter. However, since the newly upgraded tent hotels are expected to remain open during winter months as well, you may have more accommodation options for Everest Base Camp tours this winter. If you’re planning a winter visit to Everest Base Camp this year, feel free to contact us in advance for the latest updates.

It is suggested to book your Everest Base Camp tour at least 21 days in advance, so that you can apply for the Tibet Travel Permit and other necessary travel documents in time.

In peak season from July to early October, due to the limited accommodation capacity of the base camp, early booking can also ensure a room for you at the base camp. Otherwise, you may need to stay in the town and the village at the foot of the mountain. This may miss the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sunset and sunrise of Mount Everest.

Although lodge conditions are continuously improving, please be aware that accommodations and services in the Everest region are still limited compared to those in lower-altitude areas of Tibet. It is better to set lower expectations and embrace the local conditions with understanding.

Rest assured, we will do our best to arrange the most comfortable and suitable lodging based on your preferences.
