Nyingchi is the second busiest gateway city in Tibet, served by one airport, a high-speed railway connecting with Lhasa, and overland routes from Sichuan and Yunnan. You can choose the best way to get to Nyingchi according to your schedule and interests.

Get to Nyingchi by Air

Nyingchi Mainling Airport is the second major airport for entering Tibet, after Lhasa Gonggar Airport. It serves several direct flights to Nyingchi from Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Xi’an.

Among these cities, Chengdu offers the most frequent daily flights to Nyingchi. It gives you more options to choose from.

Get to Nyingchi by Overland

Get to Nyingchi by High-speed Rail

It is a special experience to take a high-speed train from Lhasa to Nyingchi, which offers a smooth ride and comfortable onboard experience with stunning landscapes of eastern Tibet.

There is one pair of high-speed trains running between Lhasa and Nyingchi daily. It takes 3 hours and 53 minutes from Nyingchi to Lhasa, and 3 hours and 48 minutes from Lhasa to Nyingchi.

Meanwhile, the final part of the Sichuan-Tibet High-speed Railway, which links Ya'an and Nyingchi, is still under construction. Upon completion, this route will dramatically reduce the travel time from Sichuan to eastern Tibet. You can take a high-speed train from Chengdu to Nyingchi directly, with a more convenient overland travel experience in the future.
