Where Is Lulang Forest?
Located in Lulang Town, Nyingchi City, Lulang Forest is a hidden gem nestled in eastern Tibet. It sits along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, about 80 kilometers from Nyingchi and around 470 kilometers from Lhasa.
It is a narrow strip stretching 15 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide on average, covering an area of around 15 square kilometers, like a green sea from a distance.
The forest lies along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, one of the most scenic overland routes in China. Surrounded by majestic mountains, valleys, and pastures, it has become a highlight both on Nyingchi tours and eastern Tibet tours.

Opened in 2016, Lulang International Tourist Town has harmoniously blended traditional Tibetan architecture style with modern design, integrated into its surrounding landscapes. Here you can see the Tibetan-style white walls, wood roofs, wooden fences, and yards.
Strolling around here, you can explore its unique buildings or some interesting stores, such as traditional Tibetan costume stores and handicraft shops. At night, when local Tibetans gather in the square to dance together, you can join in with them.
As for dining, there are many local restaurants offering a variety of dishes that may suit your tastes. Don’t miss out the Lulang Stone Pot Chicken, a famous local specialty in this region.

Best Time to Visit Lulnag Forest: April to October
The best season to visit Lulang Forest is in spring, summer, and autumn, from April to October, which also happens to be part of the best time to visit Nyingchi. During these months, the average temperatures range from 5°C to 25°C during these months, making it comfortable for you to explore this region.
Spring is the revival of Lulang Forest. As temperatures rise above 10°C and snow melts, you’ll see the bushes, spruces, and pine trees in the forest burst into fresh green.
It’s more comfortable for outdoor activities in summer at Lulang Forest, as temperatures can reach around 25°C. This is when the forest is at its most vibrant, as you can see a verdant sea of trees and numerous wildflowers in full bloom. Though there is more rainfall in summer, the forest shrouded in mist and clouds shows its fairyland-like charm.
In autumn, Lulang Forest takes on a more colorful appearance with temperatures gradually dropping to the teens. The lush forest is adorned with shades of golden, red, and green, making autumn the most colorful season of this area.
It’s also possible to visit Lulang Forest during the winter months, from November to next March. Although it’s cold in winter, you can enjoy the unique scenery of snowy forests and have a better chance of seeing Mount Namjagbarwa.
Please note that temperatures in this region can fluctuate a lot between day and night. So it is advisable to bring warm clothing with you even in summer.

How to Get to Lulang Forest: Along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway
Generally, you can get to Nyingchi first and then head to Lulang Forest. Starting from downtown Nyingchi, you’ll travel by car along the G318 National Highway to reach the Lulang Forest. The drive covers about 80 kilometers and takes around 1.5 hours.
If you travel overland from Chengdu to Lhasa via the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, you’ll pass Lulang Forest along the way in Nyingchi, since it is beside the highway.
It is also convenient to travel from Lhasa to Lulang Forest. You can follow the Lhasa-Nyingchi Expressway and then the G318 National Highway directly to reach Lulang Forest. It covers around 470 kilometers, taking about 6 hours to drive.
