Concerned About Altitude Sickness? Recommended Tibet Tours for Singaporean Travelers Acclimatize Easily

For most tourists from Singapore, altitude sickness in Tibet is the top concern, as there is a significant elevation difference between Singapore and the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China.

Lhasa sits at 3,650m above sea level, while Singapore has an average altitude of just 15m above sea level. It is common to get mild symptoms of altitude sickness upon arrival in Lhasa by air due to the quick ascent.

However, no worries!

Generally, such symptoms will gradually disappear as your body adjusts to the thin air and new altitude in Lhasa in a couple of days.

Don't roam around Lhasa City on your first day in Lhasa. Also, avoiding strenuous activities and drinking more water to stay hydrated will help relieve the discomfort.

If you are concerned about altitude sickness, it is highly recommended to first fly from Singapore to Chengdu (500m), then travel from Chengdu to Nyingchi (2,900m) in eastern Tibet. You can spend a few days exploring the verdant and oxygen-rich areas in Nyingchi before traveling overland to Lhasa. This route allows for a more gradual acclimatization to Tibet’s high altitude.
