Himalaya Tour FAQs & Travel Tips
-
What is the best time to visit the Himalayas?
Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit the Himalayas, during which the weather is pleasant with clear views of mountain peaks.
Summer months, from June to August, mark the monsoon season in the Himalayan region. Heavy rainfall can make land journeys difficult due to landslides and make overland travel challenging.
Moreover, the humid climate in summer on the southern side of the Himalayas in Nepal and Bhutan makes it unpleasant for outdoor sightseeing.
Winter is also an ideal time to visit the Himalayas. You can even travel to Everest Base Camp in Tibet in winter from November to February.
However, high-altitude trekking and climbing routes may be closed due to extreme cold and heavy snowfall.
-
What travel documents are necessary for Himalayan tours?
For Himalaya tours in Tibet, you need to obtain both a Chinese Visa and the Tibet Travel Permit in advance. There are also some other local travel documents required according to your itinerary, such as the Alien’s Travel Permit for an Everest Base Camp tour in Tibet. The Tibet Travel Permit can only be applied for through a local travel agency, which provides tour services for you.
The situation in Bhutan is similar to that in Tibet. You need to book a Bhutan tour through a local travel agency, which will arrange your trip in Bhutan and apply for the Bhutan Visa and other necessary documents on your behalf.
If you plan to visit the Himalaya area in Nepal, you can easily get a Nepal visa on arrival at the airport in Kathmandu or at some land borders when entering Nepal. There are some specific trekking permits for different Everest trekking trails in Nepal. You can apply for the trekking permit in Kathmandu, Lukla, or Monjo according to your trekking trail. All these can be applied by yourself.
No matter where you plan to explore the Himalayas, we at Tibet Vista, with local offices in Tibet and Nepal, ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience. Once you book your Himalaya tour with us, we’ll help you obtain all the necessary travel documents in time.
-
How many days are required for a Himalaya tour?
The travel length of your Himalaya tour depends on the destinations you plan to visit and the type of journey you’re looking for.
Generally, 4 to 5 days are enough to explore a single destination, like the 4-day classic Lhasa city tour, and a short break in Kathmandu or western Bhutan (Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha) in 4 to 5 days.
If you plan to visit the Everest Base Camp in Tibet, you need to arrange for 8 days or more. And the journey to Mount Kailash in western Tibet takes 10 days from Kathmandu and around 13 to 15 days from Lhasa. You may also need 7 to 10 days to get a panoramic tour in Nepal or Bhutan.
For those seeking a multi-destination Himalayan tour covering Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan together, a trip of 11 to 15 days is recommended for highlighted sightseeing and a fully cultural experience along the way.
If you have specific travel interests such as trekking or cycling, it's recommended to set aside 15 to 20 days for these adventure experiences.
Feel free to share your travel ideas with us. Our experienced local travel expert will help you arrange the best itinerary according to your preferences.

What’s the best way to transfer across Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan?
With direct flights to both Lhasa and Paro, Kathmandu in Nepal is the best transfer hub for Himalaya tours across Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan.
It is wise to take Kathmandu as the transit stop and spend a few days exploring the best of Nepal before heading to your next destination.
One popular travel route is to take an overland journey from Lhasa to Kathmandu, explore the essence of Kathmandu Valley, and then head to Paro for a Bhutan tour. This is the smoothest way to travel without backtracking.
